Welcome to the blog of Inclusion Software

Welcome to this blog of Inclusion Software edited by Lene Elsig Dalgaard, who owns Inclusion Software, http://www.inclusion.dk/

This blog is focused on issues about human and legal rights for all, especially for people with learning diasbilies.

Inclusion Software resell English software and developes software designed especially for people with special educational needs. I also deliver lecturers on specific issues connected to inclusion for all. And write articles about this important subject that unfortunately seems to be of less importance to the majority of society.

As I am strongly committed to the African continent and visited countries in East Africa several times during the past 25 years, I am very concerned about the living conditions for people with learning difficulties in this area of the world.

Inclusion International is a global federation of family-based organizations advocating for the human rights of people with intellectual disabilities and their families worldwide. Read more on their website http://www.inclusion-international.org/en/
I am the mother of three children and my eldest daughter, Kirstine, who is 14 years old, was born with Down Syndrome, sight difficulties and she was operated for a severe heart disorder only five months old. She is a well functioning teenager, who enjoys her life.

My husband and I went to an important congress arranged by Inclusion Europe http://inclusion-europe.org/ in Warsaw, Poland in May this year. http://inclusion-europe.org/main.php?lang=EN&level=1&s=84&mode=nav2&n1=168&n2=651It was the first worldwide conference on this subject:

Citizens' Rights for All

Full citizens’ rights and legal protection for people with intellectual disabilities
Warsaw, 10-12 May 2007. The Congress examined what is required to ensure that people with intellectual disabilities enjoy legal capacity on an equal basis with others in all aspects of life, the support they may need to exercise this capacity, and how we can work to achieve necessary new laws and arrangements.

We met self advocates from Poland, UK, Czeck Republic, Slovenia, Russia and other countries, who want to and are able to decide by themselves.
The congress focused especially on Article 12 on legal capacity and concluded:

  • Lack of legal capacity means that your humanrights are violated
  • Without legal capacity comes discrimination
  • The existing guardianship system has verynegative consequences for the persons
  • The power of decision is in the hands of the guardians
  • Incapacitation gives a negative image of peoplewith intellectual disabilities
